SPEAKER BIOS

Pam Chin loves cichlids! She has been a tropical fish enthusiast for many years and cichlids are her passion. In their fish house, Pam and her husband Gary currently maintain over 200 aquariums filled with cichlids from Lake Tanganyika, Lake Malawi and Central America. Pam is an Honorary Life Member of the Pacific Coast Cichlid Association (PCCA) and currently the editor of the PCCA's award winning publication, Cichlidae Communique. Pam has been a long time member of the American Cichlid Association and in the past has served as Secretary and Chairman for Board of Trustees. In July 2001 she received the inaugural honor of the “Ida Mellen National Leadership Award For Women Aquarists.” As a true hobbyist, Pam is also a member of many regional cichlid clubs as well as the Sacramento Aquarium Society and the San Francisco Aquarium Society. She is a founding member of “Babes In The Cichlid Hobby” where they try to make a difference in cichlid keeping, by raising money for cichlid research and cichlid conservation. She has traveled to collect and observe cichlids in their natural habitats in Mexico and Africa. Pam's day job is working as a purchasing agent for a large mechanical contractor in Sacramento, CA. You can read Pam's articles at www.cichlidae.com.

Tullio Dell Aquila is head of new product development and founding partner of Aquatic Research and Development located in Utica, New York. ARAD is a manufacturer and developer of aquarium products specializing in advanced high power solid state lighting systems. Tullio has spent over a decade focusing on the importance of proper lighting techniques for aquariums and developing much of the technology they are now producing today. Tullio has been an avid reef aquarium hobbyist for over fifteen years. With an extensive technical background, he initially started out researching, testing, and developing products for various companies in our industry. After years of testing and helping to develop products for other companies he partnered with Joe Cattadoris and Andy Cleary, both highly accredited in the manufacturing industries, to form Aquatic Research and Development. Today Tullio spends most of his time developing and testing new lighting formats for various industries as well as designing lighting systems and other related products for some top companies in our own industry. Among his numerous accomplishments is the 2001 Northeast Council of Aquarium Societies' award for both best article on his super bacteria theory and best column "Today's Reef Aquarium" in the publication Aquatica. He will lecture on LED lighting technologies for the aquarium industry and how these techniques can benefit any type of aquarium. He will also be discussing some of the new lighting formats we can look forward to in the future. You can visit his company's website: www.aquaticresearchanddevelopment.com.

Steve Rybicki has been breeding angelfish professionally—full-time, for a living, 14 hours a day for the past 16 years. His business is called Angels Plus. For 16 years before he went into full-time business, he was breeding angelfish as a serious hobbyist, so he brings more than 30 years of experience to his presentations. You can visit Steve's website at www.angelsplus.com.

Bill Shenefelt is a member of GPASI, a dedicated killie breeder, and a wonderful fish photographer. Shene will provide an introduction to killifish keeping for the general aquarist. He'll talk about getting started with killies, keeping them, and breeding them, with an emphasis on non-annual species. He'll teach us about water, foods, tanks, and other needs for killies and will show fishroom photos, tank photos, and fish photos. Shene started keeping killies when he was in grade school in the early 1950's, and re-entered the killie hobby twice, once in the late 60's lasting through early 70's and then again in 1999. He refilled his 30 tanks from the 70's, and his operation grew to about 230 tanks and 65 to 70 species at present. He ships fish all over the US and eggs all over the world. You can visit Shene's website at www.sheneskillies.com.
